His arms came around her, and she smelled sweat and motor oil and the faintest hint of her body wash. She wound her arms around his neck and held on tight.
Tight enough she might not ever let him go.

The one thing he could do for her was let her go. Until he couldn’t.
When Thieves’ guitarist Shane Jones lost his close friend to a freak accident, Krista Conner helped him through the worst of his grief. He kept their late-night trysts a secret to protect her from the tabloids, and when she broke up with him, he let her go.
But he never got over her.
Months later, his world is rocked again by the death of his brother mere weeks before the biggest Thieves album yet. Grieving and desperate for peace, he tracks Krista down, craving the salvation he found in her sweet spirit. Only this time, he’s determined not to leave.
Krista left Shane because her life was a mess. She’s rebuilt it, piece by challenging piece, making some hard decisions along the way. She’s settled into a new city and a new life, and for the first time in a long time, she’s content and happy. Then Shane turns up, promising to stay, promising to care. Promising everything.
Shane’s the one she wants, but the toughest choice she made could drive him away for good.
Disclaimer that I did not read the first book in this series and I really don’t feel you have to. I cannot allude to what would be given away if you read them out-of-order, but know that you can absolutely read this as a stand alone and you fucking should.
I stayed up until all hours of the night finishing this book. All hours. I started it for what felt like 8 million times. But alas sleep just kept taking over. Until last night. The night before my review. It was an amazing marathon and I may need loads and loads of cafe bustelo to get through my work day but it was worth it.
This book challenged me. It challenged my emotions and left me feeling bare. Shane and Krista were two incredibly complex characters. This is a romance novel, b
ut yet it is riddled with addiction. It showed the shaky side of the coin, the side that isn’t an addict but loves one instead. They put up this bold front and they refuse to let anyone see beyond it. They can’t show weakness because they are so busy being strong for the one they love. It tears them apart from the inside out.
Shane and Krista were so busy being broken that they didn’t realize what it meant to be whole until it was too late. The communication between them was a major theme throughout the entire novel. They communicated very little with words but their bodies spoke volumes. The chemistry exploded off the page leaving me breathless and blushing at times. I found it comforting that the theme of addiction wove its way into their relationship. They were addicted, but to each other.
He wanted her. Thought he might drive himself mad from wanting her. It was sinful and insidious in the best possible way, how a single sound could make him harder than steel, ready and willing to toss aside his plans for slow and sweet and thorough. Plans he’d tried to implement the last time and failed.
Honestly this novel fucking surprised me. I love when that happens. I really enjoyed the depth and the seriousness of what was happening in the characters lives. This novel was so much more than sex and puppy dog eyes. It was so much more than heartbreak. It was raw and my heart ached with some of the decisions they made.
If you are looking for a deeper novel, one that slices through your veins and leaves you feeling emotionally naked while at the same time putting your heart back together with some medical tape and a melody than this is your next read.
